Online Dating

Home > Dating Information > Online Dating

Online dating is an example of a dating service. Online dating allows individuals to search a database of other individuals to find people they share common interests with and contact each other. Online dating is usually conducted via a dedicated website, like Completely Free Dating, but can also be done via social networking sites like myspace.com or via newsgroups and forums.

Online Dating Trends

In 2004 people in the US spend more than $469 million on online dating services making them the largest segment of paid content on the web. However, spurred by growth in online music sales, entertainment overtook online dating to become the leading paid content category in the first half of 2005. During the same period online dating still showed strong growth but could not keep up with the entertainment sector.

Online Dating is the future

Today more that 1 in 4 single people use or have used an online dating service and 1 in 2 say they have considered it or will use on in the future. If you are looking for love it seems online dating is the way to go. In 2002, Rufus Grisom of Wired Magazine, wrote an article entitled "Why are online personals so hot?", in which he said "Twenty years from now, the idea that someone looking for love won't look for it online will be silly, akin to skipping the card catalogue to instead wander the stacks because "the right books are found only by accident."
