A dating agency acts as a matchmaking service between couples looking for romance or even marriage. There are many different types of dating agencies to cater for different people in different situations.

Dating Agency History

The commercial dating agency emerged in the Western world shortly after the Second World War. Initially the dating agency was a face-to-face business where men and women came along and met the dating agency matchmaker. The dating agency matchmaker would then ask the customer a series of questions to ascertain the sort of the person they were and the sort of person they were looking for. The dating agency matchmaker would then work out which customers they matched with and set up dates for the matches.

In the 80's the traditional dating agency began to change and develop new ways to find their customer's matches. Many introduced computer systems and ‘computer dating' was born. Computer dating cut out the manual processing of the matchmaking and removed the human factor meaning matches could be produced more quickly and accurately.

In the 90's the dating agency introduced ‘video dating'. The dating agency would record their customers making short presentations about themselves. The dating agency would then show customers the videos of other customers to see who they would like to meet.

In the late 90's a different type of dating agency emerged. This type of the dating agency was called ‘Speed Dating'. The speed dating agency arranges sessions, often on a monthly basis, designed to allow singles to meet other singles quickly and easily.

In recent years the Internet has given rise to the online dating agency. The Internet dating agency allows singles to find each other. Singles register with the online dating agency and are added to their database. They can then use the online dating agency to search for other singles and other singles can find them.
